Basic test methods for UL cable
At present, UL power cable are widely used in household appliances, automobiles, computers and other fields. Since different electrical appliances are equipped with different power wire, therefore there are more and more types of them. Perhaps you've already known that the UL power cable is what, but you don't know how to test it. Here, Let us introduce the test method of UL power wire as below:1. Burning test
It corresponding to the burning grade and test method of other kind of wire.
2. Wire measurement
Measure conductor resistance, wire diameter, cross-sectional area, conductor insulation thickness etc.
3. Insulation resistance test
The test method is the same as common wire and cable, common outdoor type "w" wire and cable, etc.
4. Tensile test before and after aging
Test the tensile speed of the testing machine and the tensile index of the material.
5. Spark test
For single-core UL wire , such as CXTW, the withstand voltage test is equal to the spark test. For multi-core UL cable, you can use the spark test to take place of the withstand voltage test in daily production tests.
6. Withstand voltage test
You should apply voltage between the wires in the cable that corresponding to UL62 Table51.1. When applying voltage, you should slowly increase it from zero to the rated value within 10s to 60s, and maintain for 1 minute. The judgment criterion is that the Hi-pot machine circuit alarms during the voltage rise, fall and hold periods.
In addition to the above, you can also test it by methods of UV resistance test, oil immersion test, insulation layer tightness test, surface printing firmness test, tensile test, sheath surface insulation resistance and other tests. So everyone must test UL power cable by correct test method.
